“Playing it Safe: Are Your Community Playgrounds Adequately Protected?”

There is no better joy for a child than a playdate at a local playground. As families spend their days outdoors during the springs, summer and fall, local governments should feel confident in the safety management of their community playgrounds. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), between 2001 and 2008, more than 200,000 preschool and elementary children received emergency department care for injuries that occurred on playground equipment. Of those injuries, 51 percent took place on a public playground.
