The OneBeacon Government Risks (OBGR) office in San Antonio held a month long fundraising event in October for Breast Cancer Awareness. Following in tradition with last year, the OBGR San Antonio team hosted multiple events for WINGS, “Women Involved in Nurturing, Giving, and Sharing, Inc.” The events sparked community giving throughout the office.
The San Antonio office kicked off the month with, “I Pink I Can” including pink snacks, pink lemonade, pink candy and pink décor. Throughout the month, more events were held to raise money for WINGS including offering employees the opportunity to wear jeans and pink on Thursday with an accompanying donation to the WINGS donation pot. President, Brad York and Chief Underwriting Officer, Josette Kiel also offered up their front row parking spots. Tickets for the parking were sold for $1 per day.
Also among the events was an honor system snack bar including peanuts, cracker jacks, granola bars, snack mix, K-cups, etc. donated by a few employees. 100% of the funds collected went into the final WINGS donation pot.
Lastly, Lupe Martinez, Senior Underwriter, also known as OBGR’s “in-house chef” prepared and served delicious homemade “frito pies with all the fixin’s” to the entire office. This event alone raised $105. Combined, the San Antonio office raised $400 for WINGS.
WINGS is designed to fill the gap that exists between breast cancer detection and treatment. For many Central and South Texas uninsured women, WINGS is their only option for what is hoped to be life-saving care and treatment. WINGS utilizes a network of physicians and treatment centers to give these women a real chance at fighting this deadly disease. Beyond treatment, WINGS works in concert with organizations dedicated to education and outreach.
